Making the Classic Fruit Smoothie

by Alison Simon

Fruit smoothies are a superb addition to any meal plan. They are simple to make and are quite healthy for you too. You can make these tasty cool drinks with nearly any kind of fruit or even combine differing kinds of fruit. Here is how easy it is to create a fruit smoothie.

We'll begin with the equipment you will need. First off , you're going to require a mixer to make healthy smoothies. An inexpensive model will do the job so long as you are not asking it to blend a lot of frozen, hard fruits. If that is the case, a little more costly unit with a bigger motor will generally be wise. But to begin with, any type blender will do. You may want to upgrade later after you experience how good and nutritious a fruit smoothie is.

The fruit comes next. Smoothies are easily made from all kinds of different fruit and a lot of the fun with smoothies comes from combining different fruits in a single mix. Likely the three most well-liked fruits are Strawberries, Blueberries and Bananas.

Another popular addition to nearly any smoothie recipe is yogurt. Adding yogurt adds consistency and taste as well as vitamins and minerals. The low or no fat yogurts are the most figure-friendly yet, based on the fruits you use; you are free to use just about any kind of yogurt as well as any flavor. Now more smoothie recipes are specifying Greek yogurt which is thicker than standard yogurt and provides more protein per serving.

Finally your smoothie will need some kind of liquid to help mix the other ingredients and make it drinkable. Depending on the recipe fruit juices, milk of all sorts (whole, 2%, skim, soy, etc.), or water is utilized most often. Now and then you'll run across a recipe that rely on the fruits selected and do not use any liquid in any way.

How much you use is totally down to you. Start out with a bit less than the recipe specifies and then add a bit to arrive at the consistency you choose. Ice cubes work to add both a needed bit of fluidity and cold to the drink.

Now that all of the ingredients are assembled it is time to talk of creating the mix. Get started by adding the fruit and yogurt a little , then add whatever liquid is being used and spin away. Use the pulsing action on your blender (if it has it). That action lets the larger pieces for fruit to sink to the bottom of the container and get cut up which guarantees that you will come up with a silky smooth smoothie.

If it appears like the motor is working too hard to combine everything together add a dash more liquid to make sure everything moves around well.

Here's a tip: When the smoothie recipe needs ice cubes, crush them in the mixer before adding the other ingredients. Crushing the ice first will help mix everything simpler.

A substantial number of recipes call for frozen bananas because they supply a creamy texture, sweetness, and nourishment to the mix. But be sure to both peel and slice them before putting them in the freezer. Stored in a freezer bag until used, bananas will last quite a long time without freezer burn.
